FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Common questions about DailyMark. For anything not covered here, please contact kokujitsuki@five-birds.com.
Using the app
I want to delete or fix a record I’ve already etched
You can’t. This is by design.
DailyMark is an app for keeping the traces of how you change, designed around the idea of never rewriting the past. Typos and regrets included, records remain as they truly were in that moment.
If you want to delete your entire account, you can do so from “Delete account” in the settings screen. In that case, all records are permanently deleted and cannot be recovered.
How many times a day can I etch a record?
| Plan | Records per day | Questions per month |
|---|---|---|
| Free | 1 | 3 |
| Trial (14-day free trial) | 5 | 30 |
| Pro (monthly) | 5 | 30 |
* During the trial you get exactly the same features as Pro. After 14 days, unless you cancel, it automatically converts to Pro (¥250/month).
What is the character limit?
Counting visible characters excluding URLs, the limit is 200 characters in Japanese / 400 in English (it switches based on your device language). Including URLs, the raw length can be up to 1,000 characters.
Can I attach photos or location?
No. Text only.
Because this app is for keeping what you felt and what you thought, photos, video, location, external links and the like are deliberately left out.
What is the AI’s “asking” of past records?
When you pose a question like “What have I been troubled by lately?” or “What was I thinking around this time last year?”, the AI quietly sheds light on your past records and returns a brief sense of patterns and lingering impressions. It does not diagnose, and it does not draw conclusions for you.
AI responses are for reference only and are not medical, legal, financial, or life advice.
Subscription (Pro)
What’s the difference between Pro and Free?
Pro unlocks a higher daily limit on records, more monthly questions, the monthly review, and exporting your records.
Is there a trial (14 days)?
Yes. When you tap “Go Pro,” the StoreKit dialog shows “14 days free, then ¥250/month” (an Apple Introductory Offer). After 14 days, Apple begins billing automatically. If you cancel during the free period, you won’t be charged (from the App Store subscription management screen).
The trial is once per Apple ID. You can’t use it again with the same Apple ID even on a different device (Apple’s policy; within Family Sharing, only one person can use it).
Can I buy Pro while staying anonymous?
Yes. Even without linking an Apple ID (“Sign in with Apple” inside the app), you can join Pro through the App Store purchase flow (billed via your iCloud Apple ID). The 14-day free trial and “Restore Purchase” can also be done anonymously.
The only purpose of linking your Apple ID inside the app is to keep using the same records on a different device. It is unrelated to purchasing Pro or the trial.
How do I cancel?
You can do this through the standard iOS flow.
- On iPhone, open Settings → your Apple ID name → “Subscriptions”
- Select “DailyMark Pro”
- Tap “Cancel Subscription”
You can also open the same screen from “Manage subscription” in the app’s settings. You can keep using Pro features until the next renewal date.
I’d like a refund
Subscription refunds follow Apple’s refund policy. Please request one through Apple’s “Report a Problem” (reportaproblem.apple.com). As a rule, we do not issue refunds directly.
If I cancel Pro, what happens to my records?
Pro features (5 records per day, 30 questions per month, the monthly review, and export) become unavailable, but your existing records remain as they are. You can continue to view them on the Free plan.
Account
Can I use it anonymously?
Yes. The app issues an anonymous ID on first launch, and linking an Apple ID is optional.
However, if you stay anonymous, your records are lost when you change devices or delete the app. If you want to keep them long-term, we recommend linking an Apple ID.
What happens when I link my Apple ID?
Records that were under your anonymous ID become linked to your Apple ID. If you sign in with the same Apple ID on another device, you can access your existing records.
What happens when I switch phones?
If you’ve linked an Apple ID, you can carry your records over by completing “Sign in with Apple” using the same Apple ID on the new device. If you stayed anonymous, records are not carried over.
I want to delete my account completely
You can do this from “Delete account” in the settings screen. When you choose “Delete” in the confirmation dialog, all records (etched records, marks, and monthly reviews) are permanently deleted. None of it can be recovered.
Even if you sign in again with the same Apple ID after deletion, your pre-deletion data does not return (it is treated as a new account).
Exporting records (Pro)
Can I take my records off the device?
The Pro plan offers a “data export” feature. From the settings screen, you can export all your records as JSON or Markdown and, via the share sheet, save them to a file or send them to another app.
- JSON: machine-readable, for future migration to other apps
- Markdown: human-readable, opens in note apps and the like
Export is available up to 3 times per month.
Privacy
Are my records used to train AI?
No. The records sent to OpenAI and Anthropic (for generating embeddings and question responses) are guaranteed not to be used for training under each company’s API terms.
Can third parties see my records?
No. Each record is restricted so that only its owner can view it, enforced at the database level with RLS (Row Level Security).
See the Privacy Policy for details.
Do crash reports include the content of my records?
No. Only stack traces and device-type information are sent to Sentry.
Technical / environment
Which operating systems are supported?
iOS 15 or later. Android support is planned for v2.
I’m not receiving notifications
Things to check, in order:
- Whether “Receive notifications” is on in the app’s settings
- Whether iOS Settings → DailyMark → Notifications is set to “Allow”
- Whether either “Daily reminder” or “Reminder (after a while)” is on
- Whether the “Daily reminder” time is set to a point later than now
If they still don’t arrive, please contact kokujitsuki@five-birds.com.
The app won’t start / it crashes
Please confirm your OS is iOS 15 or later and update the app to the latest version. If that doesn’t help, contact kokujitsuki@five-birds.com with the symptoms and your iPhone model / iOS version.
About the service
Is this developed by an individual?
Yes. It’s a personal project of five-birds.com (Representative: Masaru Ishimoto).
Is support quick to respond?
We aim to reply within 3 business days, but as a one-person project, responses may sometimes be delayed.
What happens if the service shuts down?
In accordance with Article 7 of the Terms of Service, we will give notice via in-app notification at least 30 days in advance. During that period, you can export your records with the Pro feature. After shutdown, all records are permanently deleted.
